Saintly Victorian Father Christmas
This original creation is 42" tall. His head with shoulder plate is sculpted from Cernit (polymer clay). His eyes are brown acrylic. I made his white wig from sheep rovings, his beard, mustache and eyebrows were made from Tibetan sheep wool. He looks very peaceful and wizen with his wrinkled brow and soft smile. His body is made of stuffed cotton with a heavy wire armature. He stands on his own. His arms are movable at the shoulders and elbows so they can be positioned to hold something in his hands. I designed and sewed his clothes. He wears a light bright yellow dress made of a silk under dress with nylon patterned overdress, the long wide sleeves trimmed at the neck and cuffs with matching fancy braiding. His flared hooded long coat is made of multicoloured stripped crushed velvet lined with wine colour silk. The coat is trimmed all around the front, hem and hood with black Persian lamb, recycled from an old coat, a wine colour braiding decorates the inside edge of the fur trim. The hood is held closed at the neck with a large gold metallic medallion. The coat is held closed with gold metallic buttons joined by a chain. He wears brown leather mittens. In his left hand he holds a grape vine wreath decorated with red ribbons, dried berries and a red tassel, a small bird sits on pine cones inside the wreath. He wears a small nylon rope going around his body from the back over his shoulder and around the front. An assortment of toys dangle from it. To may taste he is by far the most Saintly looking Victorian Father Christmas I have ever made.
