Woodland Father Chirstmas

This original creation is 36" tall. His head with shoulder plate is sculpted from Cernit(polymer clay). His eyes are blue acrylic. His broad smile shows pearly white teeth. I made his white wig from sheep rovings, his beard, mustache and eyebrows were made from Tibetan sheep wool. His body is made of stuffed cotton with a heavy wire armature. He stands on his own. His arms are movable at the shoulders and elbows so they may be positioned. I designed and sewed his clothes. He wears a synthetic suede tan dress with narrow cuffed sleeves. The dress is straight and has the closure at the back of the neck . His hooded wine colour satin lined coat is made from deep wine colour crushed velved trimmed on the edges, hem and sleeves with light brown muskrat. The hood is trimmed with thick long grey fox fur to keep his face warm on very cold days in the forest. The coat is held closed at the neck with a wooden button. He wears dark brown leather mittens. On his back his has a basket of dried branches, sprigs of evergreen hew with dried red berries sprinkled throughout. The basket is held to his back by a thin cissel rope that goes around from his back over his left shoulder to the front and back to the basket. At the front the rope has a wicker basket with a little hand made wooden bead soldier and a hand made twig arm chair dangling from it. In his left hand he holds a dried apple tree branch with a lanter with candle at the end and a twig wreath attached at the middle. He is all decked out for a long walk through the woods to enjoy nature. I love his impish grin, one cannot look at him without smiling. A young student at the University in Halifax bought him for a Christmas present to bring back to his mother a Canadian who now lives in Bermuda. This was 2 years ago. She e-mailed me to tell me how much she enjoyed her present. This was 2 years ago, we still e-mail and she invited me to visit with them and Santa of course. This I plan to do in the near future.
