Anatomy - The Making Of
CLOTH BODIES

All cloth bodies are made of stuffed cotton with wire armature in the arms so they may be posed or hold something, some also have wires in the legs depending on the size and how I want to pose the item.

Most of my cloth bodies have a small pipe or cardboard tube inserted within the torso to allow for a wooden dowel imbeded in a wooden stand to be inserted inside the torso. I make two interchangeable dowels. a long one for the figure to stand and a shorter one so it can sit. The dowel used will sit in a hole in the base of the stand by itself . These bodies can also sit down on their own in a chair.

For a figure like the wizard that I like to sit on a fancy pillow on the edge of a table, I supply a stand with a long dowel to stand him up and a pillow with a piece of wood at the bottom and short dowel inserted in it. The dowel comes out at the top of the pillow and is inserted inside the torso to provide stability when sitting it on a shelf, table edge etc.

If the figurine is to sit only, I sculpt the feet to reflect that aspect. If it is to stand and sit, then I usually use the fabric feet. I sometimes like my wizards to wear little pointy elf type shoes, and my angels and fairies to wear ribbons for shoes, for this purpose I use fabric feet.

I also sometimes make the smaller bodies from a wire armature, body arms and legs, inserted inside a stuffed one piece cotton body. This I often use for small elves, fairies etc that will be held by a larger figure.

For description of Life Size Body please see Father Christmas under Santas and Fathers Christmas in the Gallery.
